Frequently Asked Questions

When do your classes start?

In both our Weekday and Weekend programs, we have 2 sessions that start per year in September and March.

How long is the program?

The Weekday program is 650 hours long and runs 9 months. The Weekend program is 525 hours and is completed in 14 months.

How much do the programs cost?

We have two formats for our Professional Licensing program. The cost of tuition for the Weekday program is $8825. The cost of tuition for the Weekend program is $7225. Both programs have additional costs associated with them that may include carry fees, textbooks, a massage table, and other supplies. (for more information please see Licensing Programs and Tuition.

How can I pay for school?

Students have several options for financial aid including payment plans through PTSM and private grants. Some eligible students have used their county WorkSource-Unemployment training funds to help pay for school. Eligible U.S. Veterans have used GI benefits to help pay for part or all of their tuition. Please contact Admissions to discuss your options.

Does the school provide financial aid?

Since PTSM is not a Title IV school, we do not administer Federal Student Loans.

Where can I stay in Port Townsend while I am attending school?

The school maintains a Housing List which includes names and contact information. There are various levels of housing – from hostels and room shares, to apartments in private homes, and of course, motels, hotels, and bed and breakfasts. This list can be obtained by calling or emailing the school.

Can I visit the school?

Please do! Our hours of operation are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday’s. During these times, you are welcome to tour the school and speak with staff regarding our programs. Appointments are not necessary, but appreciated. PTSM offers Intro to Swedish Massage for those who might be considering a career in Massage Therapy, or those interested in learning basic skills to practice on family and friends.

What are the requirements for admission?

The applicant to the Professional Massage Licensing Program must be at least eighteen years of age, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and be physically capable of giving and receiving massage. Admission of the applicant is based upon the school's determination of the ability and commitment to perform the work necessary to become a massage professional. The written application and personal interview will be used to determine if our program meets the career preparation needs of the applicant. The school does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, religion, national origin, age, sexual orientation or marital status.

In addition, the applicant must complete the admissions process as specified in the application.
