It’s because that’s how this school began. With just three students and our founder along with a love for massage, a belief in the transformative power of its energy, and a strong desire to create community through the massage profession.

Massage is not a luxury. It’s a way to a healthier, happier life. It is our intention to help people move more freely with less pain.

We offer two core training programs to cater to students who may have schedule challenges. We also offer continuing education classes and CPR.

Our Story
From its conception, Port Townsend School of Massage’s evolution has been an organic unfolding. The very first class was held in 1996, with three students meeting in Founder and former Director, Fairin Wood’s living room. The school grew to 15 students that fall and moved into its home at the Palindrome.

Since 1996, PTSM has expanded into larger locations – uptown Tyler St., Landes Court, and now in our own building at 2219 W. Sims Way!

We have a wide range of teaching and administrative staff who have a passion for their classes and the material they teach, and offer Continuing Education classes.

The Port Townsend School of Massage was born out of a strong desire to make a contribution to creating community through the massage profession.

Port Townsend has long been known for its transformative energies, drawing body workers and natural therapists from all parts of the country.

Port Townsend is a well-known place for growth and healing. It is at a crossroads where the Straits of Juan de Fuca and the Puget Sound converge and is surrounded by the majesty of the Olympic Mountains to the west and the Cascades to the east.

Current owner, Elizabeth Piglowski, LMT, bought PTSM in July of 2019 – just before the Coronavirus pandemic. The PTSM students and staff learned so much during that intrepid time, on how to keep people safe during a global pandemic, while applying their knowledge to care for others in a healthy, safe environment. Since then, we have grown and thrived and trained competent, knowledgeable, intelligent Massage Therapists to provide quality care for their clients, as well as themselves. Her 25+ year connection with the school, from Assistant to the Director (then Fairin Woods), to student, to practitioner, to instructor, then to administrator, prepared her to navigate a changing landscape. We love to collaborate with other schools to ensure consistency, creativity, high ethical standards and community. Its about collaboration, not competition. There's room for everyone!
